A History of the PostgreSQL Project
December 2, 10:10 – 10:55
Abstract
The history of the PostgreSQL project dates back more than 25 years. In this talk, we’ll look back on both the human and the technical history of the project and hear from project contributors throughout the project’s
history in their own words. How did they join the project? What are they doing today? Attending this talk should leave you with a deeper understanding of why Postgres has succeeded over a long period and how it came to be the project that it is today.

PostgreSQL Story in China, in Alibaba Cloud(Aliyun)
December 2, 10:55 – 11:40
Abstract
Since 2011 years, China Postgres User Group hosting a national technology conference in China every year, this past October, is the 7th.
In June 2015, Aliyun released ApsaraDB for RDS (PostgreSQL) database services, currently we have support 3 database engines including PostgreSQL, PPAS and Greenplum. In addition to providing a cloud platform based on RDS, we also send “dbsync” in GitHub as a open source project, to help users replicate data from MySQL to PostgreSQL/Greenplum.
By this time on the 20th anniversary of the PostgreSQL, hope that through the story happened in my side, let everybody know China PostgreSQL community, and let us do more fusion around the world.

Using PostgreSQL in Tantan – From 0 to 350bn rows in 2 years
December 2, 15:15 – 16:00 @ Track A
Abstract
Tantan is at the moment the best location based dating app for Android and iOS in China and hopefully soon in all of East Asia. We started early summer 2014 on a blank sheet and now store more than 350 billion rows in PostgreSQL. Our 4 million daily users generate about 500k database requests per second during peak, distributed over 150 servers.
In this talk I will cover how PostgresSQL together with PostGIS forms the backbone of Tantan; the workload we have, the hardware we use, the software we use and also challenges we meet and a quick look at our custom sharding solution. In previous talks I have given about how we use PostgrsSQL in Tantan people have asked for a more broad view and this is what I hope to give in this talk.
